Armelia Grooms was appointed to serve as a member of the Housing Authority of the City of East Orange on May 27, 2004 to fill the unexpired term of another commissioner, who resigned. Mrs. Grooms term will expire on May 27, 2009.

Mrs. Grooms is a graduate of Bloomfield College with a degree in Business Administration. Mrs. Grooms is a resident of East Orange and currently works for the County of Essex, Division of Training and Employment as Assistant Administrative Analyst to the Sanction Unit Manager. Her job is to make sure that the clients are in compliance with the State regulations. Mrs. Grooms has also work for the City of East Orange as a Rent Leveling Office Manager. Her responsibilities were to record and resolved tenant complaints, organize inspections of rental properties and schedule conferences with landlords and tenants.

Mrs. Grooms also works as a real estate agent in her spare time and has devoted a majority of her time as Community Activist.
