ABOUT OUR COMMISSIONERS….
|
The Board of each local housing authority shall consist of seven members, one appointed by the mayor or chief executive officer of a municipality, five by the governing body and one member appointed by the Commissioner of the Department of Community Affairs with guidelines prescribed in N.J.S.A 40a:12a-17.
Each member shall serve for terms of five years and until their successors have been appointed and qualified (that is, sworn). However, members who are not in compliance with the training requirements shall not continue to serve as holdovers, when their terms expire or they are deemed resigned. |

Armelia Grooms, Chairperson |

Armelia Grooms was appointed to serve as a member of the Housing Authority of the City of East Orange on May 27, 2004 to fill the unexpired term of another commissioner, who resigned. Mrs. Grooms term will expire on May 27, 2009.
Mrs. Grooms is a graduate of Bloomfield College with a degree in Business Administration. Mrs. Grooms is a resident of East Orange and currently works for the County of Essex, Division of Training and Employment as Assistant Administrative Analyst to the Sanction Unit Manager. |

Wanda M. Slaughter, Treasurer
|
|
Wanda Slaughter welcomed her appointment to the EOHA Board of Commissioners with enthusiasm. During the past several months she has relished the hard work and dedication that being a Commissioner takes. Mrs. Slaughter is a resident of East Orange and became a member of the Board of Commissioners in May of 2005.
Currently, Wanda is Treasurer and serves on the following committees: Personnel, Finance, Real Estate and By-Laws Committees. |

Ted Green
|
|
Ted Green is married and is the father of two children. Ted Green is a graduate of East Orange High School and has received an Associates Degree from Union County College and a degree in Business Administration at Essex County College. For the last 14 years he has worked as
Assistant Housing Director for the Township of Irvington. Mr. Green is certified as Housing Counselor from Rutgers. Vice-Chairperson Green spends a lot of time mentoring programs for the youth; has sponsored basketball teams. Vice-Chairperson Green was the first
recipient to receive an award for New Jersey Outstanding Service through Gov. McGreevy. Elected as City Council person he is chair of the Housing Committee. Ted Green is a strong advocate for youth empowerment. For the past 5 years Ted Green has sponsored a program throughout the 3rd Ward of the City of East Orange for the seniors to receive free lawn care and snow removal.

Jamal S. Barnes
|
|
Jamal Barnes is a native and lifelong resident of East Orange, NJ. He is the husband of Demetrisha Barnes, and the father of two girls, Lachelle and Maya. In 1994, he graduated summa cum laude from Bethune-Cookman College with a BS in elementary education, having successfully completed the college’s honors and Presidential Scholar’s program. He has been elected to the National Honor Society, Who’s Among American High School Students, and Kappa Delta Pi National Honor Society in Education.
